Welcome to our Vintage Home and Farm! It's so nice of you to stop by for a visit. In the summer of 2017, my family decided to leave the city, headed up to the northwest corner of Washington State, and purchased this enormous 1944 Cape Cod in need of serious restoration.
It came with 2 and a half acres of the most lovely, usable farm land.
And next door is this gorgeous barn.
The barn sits just beyond the front edge of our property, and we fell in love with it the moment we set eyes on it. A bit of history about the property: back in the 1940's, this used to be a dairy farm. You can see evidence of the dairy farm in the barns and outbuildings that remain here. We also discovered that the original owners had a victory garden here that served the local hospital. Today, the barn belongs to everyone in our homeowners association, for use by those who have horses.
This blog will begin by featuring home restoration tips as we get started on updating the house, and will continue with setting up our homestead, gardening, canning, root cellars (I'm so excited to use ours - it will be my first!), chickens, goats, recipes, foliage, barns, holidays in the country, and everything else to do with life on a small farm.
We are looking forward to embracing homesteading principles and a healthier lifestyle. Some topics we will be exploring here include
I hope you'll come back and 'visit' me often -- there's so much to share, and do leave your comments!
