Autumn in Our Vintage Home with Knotty Pine Walls

knotty pine decorating living room

It's autumn and our home with its knotty pine walls is starting to have touches of the fall season throughout each room.  We brought out the orange pillow covers for the cushions on the couch.  Pumpkin spice-scented pinecones were placed along the back of the piano, along with a vase of sunflowers.

Soon, it will be time to get out the Halloween decorations...October is just around the corner.  I love seeing this vintage trick-or-treat bucket that my husband used as a child. Our daughter also carried it around the neighborhood on Halloween night when she was small.

Wheat that we grew on our farm also makes it into our autumn decorations. Below, we've gathered a big handful of wheat into a bundle and placed it into a vintage cream colored vase on our fireplace mantle.

Our cat Grey Guy loves to nibble on the wheat.  There he is on the dining room table, sampling the wheat kernels.

Right as summer turns to fall, we pick our apples and pears from the two massive trees growing near the house.  Then it's time to make applesauce, apple pies, cider, pear bread, canned pears and more.

We also have leaves to rake.  The leaves break down into mulch that we put on our garden.

Pumpkins and other winter squash begin to fill every nook and cranny of our house.  Here's a sugar pie pumpkin on our kitchen island, waiting to be baked into pumpkin pie and pumpkin bread.

We also line our windowsills with tomatoes from the garden.  So many things to make with homegrown tomatoes...salsa, spaghetti squash, tomato sauce, canned tomatoes, frozen tomatoes and more...

The pumpkin patch in our garden is a sure sign of fall, with all the bright orange pumpkins laying there among the vines and foliage that is now dying back.

And don't forget about the sunflowers!  These always mark the entrance to the garden with their sunny heads bowing down.

Knotty pine walls e-book

In the book, which you can download and view now, you'll discover how we stumbled upon our unique home. The house was once part of a dairy farm, but it had fallen into disrepair over the years.  Despite the sad state of the house, the solid planks of knotty pine throughout were still in great shape. Included are photos of the renovation plus many more photos of each of the eight rooms decorated. Click to see the book on Amazon.

We invite you to download your copy of the book, which follows our journey as we share what we learned while renovating and decorating a house with its vintage knotty pine walls. See photos of our rooms from start to finish and throughout the seasons.
